This sculpture portrays two chairs, side by side, with one left empty. A presence defined as much by what is missing as by what is there. The empty chair becomes a symbol of absence, a reminder of the space left when someone or something is lost. Rather than filling that space, the work invites viewers to sit with it, to acknowledge that loss is part of the human experience.
The sculpture sits on a hand-finished, oil-rubbed walnut base with a custom copper stand. A small copper nameplate on the stand displays the initials GG and the year.
